Tuesday - TWLEVE-year-old golf sensation Ashton Turner, from Alford, has been named in the shortlist for this year's Lincolnshire Sports Awards.
The awards, organised by the Lincolnshire Sports Partnership, aim to join together the whole sporting community from Lincolnshire's top stars to the teachers coaches and volunteers who are the behind the scenes heroes.

Ashton has been nominated in the Young Sportsman category alongside 14-year-old boxer Ryan Fillingham, and 13-year-old Ben Garnham.

Ashton, who was introduced to golf as a result of needing physiotherapy, has had a great year. In July Ashton qualified for the World Junior Championships which were held at Pinehirst in America. Ashton finished number one in Europe, seventh Internationally, and 23rd in the world.

In August, Ashton also represented the rest of the world against America in a Ryder cup format, a competition only open to the top 10 players.

Ashton is the captain of the U14s Lincolnshire Junior county squad, and has been selected for the Midlands U16S coaching squad starting on November 1.

At just 12, Ashton is moving onto the senior scene, and in September he took part in the Woodthorpe Club Championships, finishing second in what was a senior men's competition.

The awards presentation takes place on November 9 at the Lincolnshire Showground.
