Wednesday - GIRL power is evident in the world of football as two more local girls have been signed up by Lincoln City Football Club's School of Excellence.

Katie Moore, of Skegness, and Phoebe Chambers, of Wainfleet, were selected for the team after wowing the scouts at trials last month.

Katie, nine, a pupil at the Viking School in Skegness, has been playing football with Swifts Football Club for a couple of seasons and with Lincoln's Grassroots training at Skegness Grammar School since she was five.

Her mum Tracy said: "She was asked to go for trials and she did really well because quite a lot of girls were asked to go along.
"She was ecstatic and really chuffed when she found out she had got through. We were really proud."

Phoebe, nine, who goes to Magdalen Primary School in Wainfleet, started playing football two years ago because her dad Dean loves the game.

She was about to sign for East Coast Juniors when she heard she had been picked.

Mr Chambers said: "She was over the moon and is really looking forward to getting started.

"It was unbelievable. Words can't explain how I felt - she has achieved something I never did."

Mr Chambers thanked Paul Johnson of East Coast Juniors and Adam Cowdell of Grassroots for their help in training Phoebe so far.

The girls will now only play for Lincoln City and will train twice a week with matches on Saturdays.

They will begin training in August.
