The four-hour event was fished to a conservation-based measure and release format, with a two hook limit. Grimsby's England International George Smith was on top form, catching fish on every cast but one.
His 24 whiting and four dabs measured 965cm, putting him almost three metres in front of the rest of the field. In second place with 16 whiting and four dabs for 679cm was another top class Grimsby angler Bill Sheppard, who made the most of a prime end peg at North Shore.
Heacham (Norfolk) angler Simon Buttery came in third with 16 whiting and three dabs for 562cm, with Croxton's
Dave Burr one fish behind on 529cm. Deano Sumner was the first local to feature in the prizes, taking 12 whiting and six dabs to finish fifth in his own match.
The longest round fish was a 63cm cod caught at North Shore by M Hornigold of Kings Lynn. His cod weighed about 7lb and was just 2cm in front of a similar specimen caught by Nottingham's Jack Morris at Ingoldmells Point. The longest flatfish award was shared between Northampton's Dave Shorthouse and Cromer's Tony Thomas, both with 31cm dabs.
The event was hosted by the Lookout Pub, Ingoldmells Point, where a buffet meal was followed by a grand raffle, which raised £268 for the RNLI. Next year's event will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2009, from 2.30-6.30pm.
