Alford Wheelers enjoy another successful outing

Monday - ANOTHER successful outing for the Alford Wheelers when they had a three man team in the Melton Olympic 25-mile time trial on Saturday evening.



The event was held on the A1 road, between Long Benington and Newark, and attracted an entry of 105 riders.


Alford's top rider was in-form John Potter, who recorded a personal best time of 58m 1s to win the veteran group prize.


This was a three-and-a-half minute improvement on his previous best time, the first time 'under the hour' for him.


His teammate, 19-year-old Finnian Haynes also beat the hour, with a time of 58m 25s, which placed him fourth in the under 20 age group.


Maurice Nicoll's time was 1h 5m 3s.


In the midweek 10-mile time trial league, top placing went to Brian Sargent, with a time of 24m, with Eddie Kay second in 24m 40s, and Phil Heyes (Skegness Wh) third in 25-09.


Other top 10 placings were: fourth, Mark Hill 25-16, fifth, Wayne Mountain 25-35, sixth, Brendon Thomas 25-50, seventh, Mick Pell (Skegness Wh) 25-58, eighth, Nick Cooper 26-09, ninth, Richard Mumby 26-11, tenth, Mark Atkinson 26-25.


In the under 16s event, the winner was Ben Foxwell in 28m 7s, with Ryan Thomas second in 29-55 and Josh Tagg third in 30-25.
