Skegness 2nds (16 points) beat Stamford Town 2nds (2 points) by ten wickets.
ANOTHER fine bowling display by Skegness seconds set up a ten-wicket win against ten-man Stamford Town seconds and extended the seasiders’ unbeaten start to the season to seven matches.
Disciplined bowling from Mark Elsom and Dan Nuttall kept the visitors tied down early on. Nuttall was unlucky not to claim a wicket while showing excellent control.
At the other end Elsom could have finished with more than three victims having had Menno Besseling dropped twice in the same over.
Besseling (38) and Jonny Williams (50) fought back for Stamford and would have been targeting a score of over 180 at one stage. However, Mark Chamberlain (4-18 off six overs) had other ideas.
Waiting until the 33rd over for his chance, his first over was a double wicket maiden.
With Williams falling to a sharp catch by Alistair Ainsworth behind the wickets off the bowling of Steve O’Dare, Skegness looked to end the Stamford innings. But Ben Peck and Scott Chamberlain hung on to deny Skegness maximum bonus points.
In reply, Skegness openers Ainsworth (70 not out) and O’Dare (59 not out) survived early appeals before going on to finish with unbeaten half centuries, the winning runs being struck in the 27th over.
