ENTERPRISING teenager Stewart Needham is building his own future – and has been shortlisted for a Lincolnshire and Rutland Work-Based Learning Award.
Stewart, 19, of Main Road, East Keal, studied bricklaying at Boston College.
But he couldn't find anyone to employ him.
Go-it-alone Stewart decided to become self-employed so he could gain the experience he needed for an NVQ. That was his big breakthrough.
Stewart said: "Ever since then I have not looked back.
"I've had plenty of work and I am always improving the skills I have."
Sara Dockray, a training adviser at Boston College, said: "Although Stewart has faced many obstacles on his journey, he deserves to be recognised as the Apprentice of the Year."
Stewart is a finalist for the Apprentice Personal Achiever of the Year Award and is the only Spilsby area contender in the awards.
