HORNCASTLE and Louth MP Sir Peter Tapsell has challenged Prime Minister Gordon Brown over the Iraq war.
At last Monday's Prime Minister's Questions, Sir Peter put it to Mr Brown that the 'disastrous effect' of the war has been to make Iran the dominant power in the whole of the Middle East.

He continued: "What the British people want is an explanation, well before the general election 11 months from now, of how it came about that Mr (Tony) Blair was able to persuade Parliament to vote in favour of the war on facts which he knew would not stand up to proper examination."

But Mr Brown said an inquiry would look into these issues.

"What happened after the fall of Baghdad will be as much a subject of the report as what happened before," he said.

"So I hope he will agree that all these issues – that seven-year period – will be looked at by the inquiry, and looked at very fully indeed."
