‘Solar panel plan should be treated with more caution’

EDITOR - Keen as I am to invest in cost effective renewable energy, I wish to caution that the ELDC scheme to invest £500,000 of taxpayers’ money in a solar panel scheme is not the wonder it may wish to fool you into believing it is.

On the face of it, this looks like win-win. However, not only is the initial capital cost to be met by hard pressed council tax payers, all the returns, payback time and wonderful accounting figures are again coming out of taxpayers’ pockets.

The government sets and backs the feed in tariff rates that underpin these fantasy finances, and we all pay for the whole ridiculous scam through the green energy surcharge currently being heaped on top of our already unaffordable electricity charges.

No wonder 20 per cent of households are now moving into fuel poverty. This ridiculous scam will no doubt be generating great bonus payments throughout the bloated council bureaucracy for years to come.

What about pensioners faced this coming winter with ‘eat or heat’? The sooner this life-threatening extortion is exposed the better.
