A CHARITABLE teenager has managed to raise thousands for a worthy cause through her efforts in arranging a community event.

Hester Seymour, 17, who works at The Royal Oak Caravan Park in Winthorpe during the summer, raised £3,500 by holding a fete and talent show in the evening recently.

A cheque was presented to the British Heart Foundation charity on Friday at the caravan park, which Hester’s mother Pat and father Guy Seymour have run for the last 25 years.

“I decided to put on the fete and talent show which we held in the park and pub back in June. I chose that charity because I felt it would mean a lot to the people who visit and stay at the park and I’m really pleased with the money we were able to raise,” said Hester who attends school in Northamptonshire.

An array of cake stalls and games were held at the fete, as well as a tombola, dog show and a raffle.

“It was a lot of hard work but I’m pleased with how it went,” added Hester.

During the talent show, a karaoke was held and Hester says she will be likely to hold another fundraising event in the future.

“It was a great way to get everyone together and the money was raised by the people staying there, family and friends and I’m very grateful,” explained Hester.

And Hester’s mother Pat could not be more proud of her daughter’s efforts, she said: “Hester planned it very well and it made for a very successful day.”

Helena Mair, volunteer fundraising Lincolnshire manager for The British Heart Foundation charity, said: “We wish to say thank you for all Hester’s hard work and everyone who donated to the cause. The BHF is able to continue to do its work through the funds people raise and we are very grateful for all their hard work.”

The BHF is looking to set up a local fund raising group and a recruitment evening is being held on Monday, August 6, at The County Hotel in North Parade, Skegness, at 7.30pm. For further details call Simon Bourne on 078684 45623.
