A heartfelt plea for volunteers has been made by an animal sanctuary near Spilsby.

Terena Bolam, who runs Northcotes Heavy Horse Centre in Great Steeping, told the Skegness Standard in February how they were living “hand to mouth” and a plea for help was made then.

It’s even brought tears but you just keep taking the tablets and get on with things

However, the back pain Terena suffers has continued and now the need for help is even greater.

She said: “It’s even brought tears but you just keep taking the tablets and get on with things. But it’s getting harder and now after having an MRI scan I am awaiting to see a spinal specialist.

“I really do need more help and at the end of July and all of August I shall be open four days a week with two of them where I will be on my own.

“I need volunteers who can help with the daily mucking out of the horses and general horse care, as well as assisting with visitors to the centre on our open days. This really needs to be an adult or older teenager who could work unsupervised on some days as well as working as a team member with other volunteers when they are here, Someone with horse experience would be very beneficial.”

Anyone who can help is asked to call 07899 815960.

l Northcotes Heavy Horse Centre is holding a fete on Sunday, starting at 10.45am.
