A doctor from Chapel St Leonards took the heat in Chapel St Leonards today when he held a chilli pepper challenge to raise funds for a children’s orphanage in Kenya.
Dr Bola Taiwo munched through five chillies of various strengths outside Crumbs cafe, cheered on by customers.
Staff served the mildest chillies first – dishing up a Hungarian hot wax chilli, Sante Fe Grande, Serrano, Aji Red and the hottest, Ring of Fire.
Afterwards he said: “I’m feeling very hot and peppery and it feels like my brains are about to blow out.
“But if I can go through this suffering to provide funds for the less fortunate it’s worth it.”
Dr Bola continues raising funds tomorrow (Saturday) with An African Food Tasting Experience at the Village Hall, starting 6.30pm.
