The number of fire appliances has since risen from six to eight. Fire engines from as far afield as Woodhall Spa and Leverton were at the site at the height of the blaze. Appliances from Skegness, Alford, Wainfleet, Spilsby and Mablethorpe were also on site.

Writing on the Standard’s Facebook page, Lee Brown said he was in the building when the fire began.

Lee said: “I was upstairs when I saw smoke billowing past the windows.

“The DJ saw it then obviously saw the fire - he raised the alarm then we all got out.

“Luckily it wasn’t that busy in the family room, as we were leaving smoke was coming through the air con. The whole upstairs area was in flames in minutes!”

Writing on Twitter, one witness said the building was “well alight”.

Another added: “Sad to see the Bell Inn in ingoldmells on fire :-( Hope everyone is safe.”

Another said they could see the orange glow on the horizon caused by the blaze.

Lincolnshire Fire & Rescue said the fire was located on the first floor and in the roof space.
