The leader of East Lindsey District Council is proposing that a decision on the sale of Pier Field is delayed after the authority received a petition calling for the site to be designated a community asset.
The council’s Executive Board is due to consider the sale of the site when it meets tomorrow (February 10). But following the submission of the 5,000 signature petition council leader Doreen Stephenson will be recommending that the board refers the decision to full council.
Members of the Save our Foreshore group claim they have reached the target of 1,400 pledges of support from local residents requiring the issue to be addressed by the full council. The petition requests the council does not sell the seafront site to KCS Developments and that it is designated as an asset of community value under the Local Act. KCS Developments approached the council asking if they could buy the Pier Field site to construct a Premier Inn and KFC.
If the petition is found to be valid it will be discussed by council on February 25.
