A TRANSPORTATION survey will be carried out, identifying how and why visitors travel to and from Skegness in the wake of bus cuts.
Skegness Town Council’s Direction and Strategy Committee welcomed the questions Coun Gary Ellis drafted for inclusion on times of travel, modes of transport and reasons for visits.
However, given that the consultation exercise was originally intended to identify the extent of problems posed by cuts to winter bus timetables, several councillors also felt it should also include which season the surveyed journey took place.
With Stagecoach’s summer bus timetable resuming over the weekend, the questionnaire has come too late to make any impact on passengers affected by this winter’s cuts, however, Stagecoach employee Coun Jim Carpenter explained that issues posed by reductions to Sunday services could still be looked into. Coun Mark Anderson also hoped the exercise may yield information which could help a Coastal Communities Fund application for a share of the £24million fund to assist seaside towns carry out improvements, including small scale transportation enhancements.
