East Midlands Airport runway closed after Spitfire’s undercarriage collapses while landing

Local residents hoping to fly in or out of one of the area’s main airports are set for delays today after a Spitfire’s undercarriage collapsed while it was landing - closing the runway.

The runway at East Midlands Airport is expected to be closed for two hours following the incident.

The pilot is not reported to have been seriously injured.

But there is debris on the runway, which has forced the runway’s closure.

Flights into East Midlands Airport are being diverted while the clear-up takes place.
