FOUR new ‘Welcome to Spilsby’ signs have been situated on the main entrance routes into the town.
Spilsby Town Council commissioned local firm Tong Peal to replace the old rotting and faded signs with inviting new displays.
The Union Jack features alongside French and German national flags in celebration of Spilsby’s European partnership with its long-standing twin-town Fresnay-sur-Sarthe and the more recent addition of Bassum, which had been absent from the former signs.
Dignitaries from the French and German towns were invited to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee but were unable to attend due to hosting unrelated major events of their own.
The bust of famous explorer Sir John Franklin also appears on the signs in honour of his strong Spilsby connections.
