RESIDENTS across the local area woke up to very snowy scenes on Sunday after several hours of blizzard conditions on Saturday evening.

Deep snow and heavy drifting brought havoc to the region’s roads on Sunday, with many side roads all but impassable to anything other than 4x4 vehicles, and many main routes passable only with care.

The snowy road surfaces and icy conditions led to disruption to local public services, with Stagecoach cancelling all of its Sunday bus services in and around Skegness in response to the deep freeze.

A spokesperson said: “We will be doing everything we can during this period to minimise delays, however for the safety of our customers and drivers many routes will not operate where it is deemed not safe to do so.

“Weather permitting, services will resume as normal on Monday.”

Those planning on travelling on public services are advised to call Traveline on 0871 200 22 33 for up-to-date information in their area.

Trains in and out of Skegness, meanwhile, were running. However some delays were reported on the route - with the first train of the day running around 20 minutes late as a result of the cold snap.

Away from the roads local residents and children made the most of the winter wonderland scenes, with many people taking to the great outdoors to enjoy the unusually harsh snowy weather.

- This week’s Standard will feature a selection of our readers’ photos of the chilly weather.
