A talented trio of teenage musicians are hoping for victory in a prestigious battle of the bands competition to achieve their springboard to success.
Skegness and Boston based Mellow Facility - AKA John Richard, bass, Jack Kendrick, vocals and guitar and Willem Rivers, drums - recently won their heat in Lincs FM’s hotly contested competition to progress to the final.
The trio, each aged 17, performed three of their own songs at the Tywhitt Arms near Lincoln last Tuesday evening and found out the following morning they had defeated their rivals.
“We were all sat around the radio and there was a mad rush of excitement when we heard we had actually beaten the other two bands - they were both very good and it was great to think we had come out on top,” said John.
The band only formed seven months ago, when their drummer Willem was given just two days to learn a five hour set at the Royal Oak in Wainfleet and have been gigging regularly around the Skegness area ever since.
The final will take place at the Tyrwhit Arms on August 24, when they hope to bag the top prizes including a chance to record a song for airing on Lincs FM.
“If we win, we hope to build on what we’ve already achieved and look further afield,” John added. “Our dream is to make it as professionals and play as many big arenas as possible.”
Mellow Facility are influenced by bands like Biffy Clyro, Foo Fighters and Nirvana. Their next gig is at Grand Central, Skegness, on August 10.
