A group of art enthusiasts say they are overwhelmed by the support that has helped contribute to the success of an exhibition in a Skegness shopping centre.

The Skegness Art Group held the event within the Hildreds Shopping Centre from Easter Monday until Saturday, April 13 - selling around 80 paintings in total during the whole event.

Many of the members showcased a number of their paintings, which covered a vast array of subject matters and a variety of techniques, and which were sold at very affordable prices.

Speaking on Friday, artists, Christine Southwell and Catherine Rae spoke of their delight at the exhibition’s success and said the group would love to hold another one of its kind in the future.

“It has been absolutely fantastic, we have been delighted with how many pieces have been sold, and a percentage of that will be going towards the Skegness Day Centre’s fund raising team,” said Christine Southwell.

During the event, around £1,800 was made, with some still to be deducted for outgoing costs. Around 10 per cent of the final total will go towards the Skegness Day Centre, which the group has been a long standing supporter of.

“We sold around 80 pieces in total and around £150 will go towards the Skegness Day Centre,” said Olive Cartwright, treasurer.

The group has previously exhibited at St Mary’s Church, Winthorpe, and Chapel Garden Centre but say it was a great opportunity to share all their work in such a busy centre.

“It’s been really good to be able to display such a lot of work,” said Catherine Rae, artist.
