CELEBRITY stars, exciting entertainment and an improved programme of events have been announced for this year’s annual Skegness Illuminations Switch-On event.

Organisers were delighted to reveal that Hollyoaks actress and Dorothy hopeful in BBC talent show Over the Rainbow, Stephanie Davis will be appearing alongside fellow Hollyoaks star and Dancing on Ice finalist Kieron Richardson to make the big switch-on on Saturday, August 4.

A successful collaboration between Skegness organisations last year enabled the popular visitor attraction to step out from under the shadow of the SO Festival to reaffirm itself as an event in its own right.

That same organisational team, along with some major new recruits feel they have been able to build on their successes of last year to put together an even better event.

Skegness East Coast and Wolds Hospitality Association’s Colin Foran said: “We were proud of what we did last year and this year will be even better than before. “

An action packed assortment of audience participation workshops and glitzy entertainment will build anticipation throughout the afternoon culminating in a triumphant parade and fireworks display in the evening.

Paying heed to the feedback received from visitors at last year’s event, this year’s parade is hoped to travel along North Parade and Grand Parade, rather than along the Foreshore, which proved to be a ‘bit of a damp squib’.

Zumba workshops, line-dancing classes and performances from local singers, dancers bands and entertainers is set to replace the less popular brass bands which performed last year.

The main stage, like last year, will be located on Tower Esplanade, but this time the whole street will be utilised to provide a larger viewing area.

An improved sound-system and big screens are also planned. It is hoped they will improve sound and give all present a good view of the action.

Final details will be announced in the coming weeks.
