At the latest meeting of Spilsby’s WI members were able to listen to a talk regarding what life was like in the Nottinghamshire Police Force for a former mayor of Spilsby.

Spilsby Town Councillor Michael Lenton, former mayor, spoke of his time in the Nottinghamshire Police Force between the 60s and 90s.

They heard how he had served in both the city and county forces during that time.

Members asked him enlightening questions and were able to view memorabilia which created great interest.

The meeting was also opened by the President, Mrs Susan West, who welcomed all members and introduced two new members, which takes the group total up to 34.

The competition was a Thriller/Crime book which was judged by Coun Lenton, who chose in first place Mrs Christine Morgan’s 1908 edition of Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes. Second and third were Mrs Margaret Hudson and Mrs Jenny Leadbetter.

The next meeting takes place on December 13 at the Franklin Hall when the WI will be holding a social evening.

New Members are always welcome.

“If you would like to come along to see what the WI is all about please ring our Secretary Mrs Geraldine Willis on 01790 755434,” said a spokesperson.
