Members of the recently formed Skegness Women’s Institute enjoyed their first Christmas celebration together last week after a successful start to the group.

Around 30 women attended the Wainfleet Road Pavilion in Skegness last Tuesday evening when they shared festive food and took part in a Christmas quiz and raffle.

Group president Heather Green said: “People said they felt it went very well and they all had a really nice evening.”

The Skegness WI only began in October and is still keen to recruit new members of all ages to retain the group’s already diverse make-up.

Group secretary Helen Kennedy, who is 26-years-old, said they were trying to appeal to a younger audience and dispel the stereotypical impression of ‘jam and Jerusalem’

She said: “We’ve got a lot of interesting things already planned for 2013 including craft sessions, health and well being advice and all sorts. If people are lonely or would like to meet up with like minded people the WI is a great group to get involved with.”

The group meet at the Wainfleet Road Pavilion on the first Tuesday of every month, apart from the next meeting which will be held on January 8 to avoid New Year.
