A group of Skegness police officers will be swapping their beat boots for running shoes later this month.
Sergeant Kate Odlin, Pc Sally West, Pcso Katie Moore, Pc Lauren Brown, Inspector Jo Reeves, Sergeant Cherry Kelly and Sergeant Jackie Barnsley will all be taking part in the Great Eastern Half Marathon in Peterborough on October 11.
None of the group have run this far before so they decided to join together to raise money for charity.
The Jolly Coppers, as they are known, are taking on the challenge to support one of their own.
“We are running for a fellow colleague, Sgt Rebecca Griffiths, of Cambridgeshire, who was diagnosed with bowel and liver cancer while on maternity leave,” said Cherry Kelly.
“It was initially diagnosed as terminal, but she has refused to give in and is continuing to fight this dreadful disease.
“She has motivated hundreds of people to take up running challenges for ‘Team Bex’ and has just been nominated for the Pride of Britain award.
“Jolly Coppers has a Facebook page and we would love it if you could like our page and help support us on this journey,” added Sgt Kelly.
The group also has an online donation page where money can be pledged.
Anyone wishing to donate should go to www.justgiving.com/teams/jollycoppers.
“Your donation can really help us smash this goal – please support us,” added Sgt Kelly.
The group has set themselves a fundraising target of £500.
Half the money raised will be given to Rebecca’s charity of choice – Huntingdon Community Cancer Network – while the other half will go to Louth Hospice.
