A couple stranded in New York following the birth of their premature baby have found out that their £130,000 medical bills will be covered.

Katie Amos and Lee Johnston, from Burgh le Mrash, are due to spend several weeks in the city following the unexpected birth of baby Dax.

The following was posted on their dedicated Facebook page: “Great news! I believe I can confirm that all medical bills will be covered! It’s been a long wait but well worth it!”

The posts add that ‘I am told there will still be lots of costs though’.

It then lists them as:

l Loss of income

l House to pay for and the bills

l Accommodation costs in New York

l Living costs in the USA

After the birth a campaign was set up to raise funds to support the new family.

Any money left over from fundraising is set to be donated to the Ronald McDonald Fund, which provides families with a place to stay while children are undergoing medical treatment.

The posts adds: “Thank you for all your help and support and kindness.”
