Skegness Town Centre and the Hildreds Shopping Centre is readying itself for the start of its Christmas festivities with the Skegness Christmas lights switch-on taking place tomorrow (Thursday, November 27).
Events will begin from 5.45pm as Lisa Jay’s Stage Institute and The Skegness Musical Theatre Company will entertain with musical and dance renditions from Disney’s Frosen and Christmas favourite, A Christmas Carol.
Characters from Frozen Anna on Elsa will be on hand to meet and greet, as well as the cast from this year’s Skegness pantomime, Jack and the Beanstalk, to be held at the Embassy Theatre, Skegness, from December 13-29.
The Skegness Silver Band will also perform to give the event that traditional Christmas feel.
Lincs FM presenter Rob Hammond will compère the evening, alongside Mayor of Skegness Coun George Saxon and special guest to turn on the lights this year, local teen Ryan Smith, whose remarkable recovery from a brain injury sustained after a collision while cycling without a helmet has touched the hearts of many.
The ‘switch on’ will take place at 7pm.
A reindeer parade will take place from 6.30pm and Santa’s grotto will be open from 7.15pm, with the Frozen themed Shopping Centre open until 9pm for late night shopping.
Shoppers will also be able to decorate a Christmas Bauble in dedication to a loved one in the Celebrate a Life event for a £2 donation in unit 16.
This specially decorated tree will be the only thing that is not lit during the Switch On, as the tree will have a special dedication from the Fellowship of Churches on Thursday, December 4, at 6pm.
On Saturday and Sunday, November 29 and 30, there will be a Victorian Christmas market from 10am-4pm outside the Hildreds.
It will feature a range of stalls booked through the carnival committee, with a further market planned for Saturday, December 14.
