Members urged residents to go along to see what impact the hotel, restaurant and drive-thru might have on the resort.

Russell Sparkes, owner of the Grosvenor Hotel featured in the background of the picture, said: “It’s a montrosity. Have you seen how it towers over the other hotels on the foreshore. Most of them are three storeys with maybe a fourth in the the attick not five like this. We can’t do anything more at the moment until the plans to East Lindsey District Council but the fight will go on.”

Bob Walker of the Royal Hotel, on South Parade, said: “Another hotel coming into town that’s five storeys, with a 24-hour KFC? Sorry, it’s totally wrong.”

Coun Malcom Gabbitas said: “We have to ask ‘how many hotels will close?’”

More than 37 people commented on the group’s Facebook page. Linda Stone said: “Marks the end of the seafront as the Earl of Scarborough saw it... There are so many sites this monstrosity could have been built on.”
