On Sunday 26 June Rebecca Porter and Elly Rutherford completed their 10 miles for Harrison race.

Rebecca Porter works at Beacon Primary Acadmy and became aware of his diagnosis of Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 1 earlier this year. Rebecca and Elly met whilst running the C25K together with the Coasters, and decided to raise money to give Harrison and his family some much-needed memories together.

Only previously running 6.22 miles, the distance of 10 miles was set as a challenge to both runners.

Elly said: “We have been training hard and are really looking forward to the event, and hopefully raising as much money as we can for Harrison.”

After months of preparation and planning, Rebecca and Elly donned their running shoes and at 10am Sunday morning set off from Chapel Point, running along the seafront promenade until finally finishing at the Welcome Inn.

At various points on the route, friends, family and members of the public gave messages of good luck and support to the runners, which was greatly appreciated.

Julie Hawkesford, Leader of the Skegness Coasters C25K group, and Claire Parker a fellow C25K graduate and supporter accompanied Rebecca and Elly on their fantastic journey.

Rebecca said: “We are incredibly grateful for the support we have received from Julie and Claire. I personally would not have reached the end in as good spirits without their encouragement and banter today. They are two marvellous friends!”

After 2 hours and 25 minutes, Rebecca and Elly were greeted at the finish line with enthusiasm from friends, family and supporters. The girls commented: “Everybody has been so generous with their time and sponsorship. We really appreciate it!”

Harrison, along with his mum, brother and aunty attended the race and were able to congratulate the exhausted ladies at the finsih line.

Harrison’s mother said: “they did amazing... we are very proud of their efforts for Harrison.”

The pair have raised over £450, and if you would like to donate to their justgiving page visit https://crowdfunding.justgiving.com/rebecca-elly
