Street cleaners who keep Skegness litter free during the summer season have been praised by a town councillor.
Coun Malcolm Gabbitas said: “I’d say we have one of the cleanest resorts in the country and it’s all down to East Lindsey District Council(ELDC).
“Ian Bennett and his team do a splendid job keeping the front looking good and the toilets clean, which is a huge task during the summer with the thousands of visitors who come here.”
Resident Mary Berry, of Dorothy Avenue, agreed. She said: “The council really do a good job. We were asked recently if we wouldn’t mind giving a bit more to the council for this and it would be worth it to keep it this way.
“But it’s not all them. I saw a mum with a little boy on the beach and she said he insists on going out every week and collecting litter. I had to give him some money for sweets. What a lovely thing for him to do!”
Portfolio holder for operational services at ELDC, Coun Sandra Harrison, said: “The district council operates a rigorous cleansing programme all year around. This begins at 6am and continues into the late evening. As well as sweeping the streets, emptying the many bins and cleaning the beach, we have teams managing and maintaining the parks and gardens to ensure the resort is well presented for both local people and the many visitors who holiday here. It’s always good to hear praise for our teams who do an exceptional job.”
