MILLIONS of pounds in loans and grants has been made available to support community organisations seeking to become more independent.
Coun Mark Smith believes groups in the Skegness area could be prime recipients for the Communitybuilders Fund, due to its focus on assisting deprived areas.
He hopes one or more of the region’s many dedicated community groups could use the funding, to assist their delivery of valuable local services.
He said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to tap into some much needed funding to help voluntary groups and organisations to build on what they have achieved already.”
Having worked closely with the Winthorpe Youth and Residents Association, Coun Smith believes that the hard work and commitment shown by its members in driving forward beneficial community projects in a deprived area would position it favourably in any funding applications it may submit.
Grants and loans of between £250,000 and £750,000 will be offered to successful community groups that have operated for at least a year, to increase their ability to deliver social change.
A total of £2.5million is available through the funding scheme, 80 per cent of which will be offered through loans and the remainder through grants.
