Council surgery sessions will be starting in Spilsby this month to give residents greater input into the running of their town.
Spilsby Town Council will be hosting the first of its monthly sessions at the Franklin Hall on Thursday, January 10, between 11am and 1pm.
The Mayor of Spilsby Coun Michael Lenton raised the suggestion after learning of its success in other towns and parishes, and hopes it will create a closer relationship between the council and the community it serves.
He said: “I always think it’s a good thing to liaise with the public as much as possible.
“Although we have 12 people raising ideas at each council meeting, these sessions will also give the public the opportunity to express their own ideas.
“We hope this will lead to a closer liaison with the people of Spilsby, because when all is said and done this is their town and if they have any ideas for how to improve it that’s what we are here for.”
The surgery sessions will take place at the same time on the second Thursday of each month and will be hosted by two town councillors, who will provide advice to the public visitors and relay their views back to full council for it to act upon.
Members of the public will still be invited to speak at the public session of the council’s monthly meeting, however the surgeries are hoped to present additional opportunities to raise ideas for those unable to attend evening sessions.
