Skegness Town Football Club have welcomed the district council’s decision to approve the Burgh Road development, with it bringing them a step closer to having a new ground in the town.
Under the plans, the club will move to the Wainfleet Road Playing Field ahead of their current home in Burgh Road giving way to the proposed build.
The plans at the Burgh Road site will fund the relocation of the club to new and improved sporting facilities.
Club chairman Martin Jackson described the district council’s backing of the scheme as a ‘positive step forward’, saying the club was ‘very pleased’.
He said: “It will make a big difference from a footballing point of view.”
The developers are investing in new pitches as well as a new 3G pitch that will be available for community use.
The proposals also include a new clubhouse and spectator stand.
“It’s one of the biggest things to happen in the town from a footballing point of view for a number of years,” Mr Jackson added, thanking all those who had supported the scheme.
Work is expected to begin next month, Mr Jackson said, with a view to the club being able to re-locate in time for the of the 2015/16 season.
