Police issue dogs in cars warning as temperatures soar

POLICE are warning dog owners not to leave their animals in unventilated cars for long periods of time after officers in Lincolnshire had to smash a window to free one.

Officers were called to a vehicle in Gainsborough on Tuesday evening by staff who were concerned about a dog that had been trapped in a car for a number of hours.

A window on the car had been left very slightly ajar, but this was not enough to cool the vehicle and the dog was dehydrated and extremely distressed.

At 7.30pm officers took the decision to smash a window on the car and remove the dog. The owner collected the dog from Gainsborough Police Station later that evening. The matter has been reported to the RSPCA.
