INSPIRATIONAL people are being sought to become Olympic Games torchbearers as the deadline for nominations approaches.
East Lindsey District Council will be putting forward nominations of its own but is encouraging the local community make theirs before Thursday, June 29.
The London Olympic Committee will select 8,000 of the most worthy suggestions to carry the Olympic flame during part of its 70 day journey across the nation before its arrival in the Olympic Stadium on Friday July 27 2012 for the start of the games.
Leader of ELDC Coun Doreen Stephenson said: “The Olympics isn’t just about what happens in London - there are things happening in Lincolnshire too.
“As well as the Torch Relay, Skegness will host a major Olympic event called Games Time as part of the SO Festival 2011. If you know someone you think deserves the honour of carrying the Olympic Torch please nominate them.”
Worthy torchbearers could be people who have inspired others, who always strive to be the best they can, or who have made a real difference in their local community.
They could also be someone who has shown what it means to be a real friend or has shown respect for other people and knows the importance of fair play.
Although the full route taken by the torch is yet to be confirmed, Lincoln has already been announced as one of the overnight stops on Wednesday, June 27.
