A TALENTED fisherman from Welton le Marsh near Skegness caught a monster of a fish whilst on holiday in Spain recently.

Lee Whittaker hooked this 148lbs European Wells Cat Fish a few weeks ago in the River Segre whilst on a self guided trip.

Lee, who has represented England in the World Carp Classics Championships, also managed to catch three other fish which ranged in weights from 85lbs and smaller ones at 30lbs.

Lee said: “The temperature was around 30 degrees and the fish were ready for spawning.

“I travel the world looking for fish and I managed to catch this big fresh water beast in the River Segre.

“We also operate a catch and release policy so the fish are put back in.”

Whilst in Spain, Lee also became part of the campaign, ‘Friends of the Ebro’ who seek to help maintain the river and protect the fish.

Lee is also part of the British Carp Angling Championships in May.
