A memorial balloon launch and sponsored walk will be held in Skegness this Saturday in honour of a ‘wonderful, caring and loving’ midwife, whose sad passing was mourned by all who knew her.
Dee Middlebrook and Sara Woodward have organised the events in memory of Friskney woman Jan Wrisdale who died recently after a bravely fought battle against cancer.
Dee and Sara decided to pay tribute to Jan as grateful recipients of her medical care and expertise during their pregnancies.
Dee said: “Jan was a wonderful, caring and loving community midwife who loved doing her job and always went that extra mile to make sure her duty to us as new mums was completed. Her warm, loving smile she had for everyone will be sorely missed but always remembered.”
Although Jan’s funeral at Friskney Church on November 28 was attended by around 200 mourners, Dee and Sara believe there are many more in the local area who couldn’t make the event but would like to show their respects.
Those who share Dee and Sara’s fond memories of Jan are invited to join them at Grand Central’s A Bar from 10am, when Gina Stewart will be painting faces and raising money for the memorial fund.
The group will then head to Skegness beach next to the RNLI boathouse for a balloon launch at 11.30am followed by a sponsored walk around the town when more money is hoped to be raised through collection buckets.
Funds raised will go towards three commemorative benches, which Dee, and Sara hope to have built at Skegness’s Hawthorne and Beacon medical practices and in Jan’s home town of Friskney.
