A dedicated Skegness fundraiser will become a Member of the British Empire (MBE) after being recognised in the New Year’s Honours list.

Maureen Wilson fundraised for more than 40 years’ service for Cancer Research UK.

The chairman of the Skegness Group of Friends, has worked tirelessly for those four decades, raising almost half a million pounds.

She is Known locally as the ‘Cancer Research UK lady’ and her work in collecting hundreds of times in supermarkets and on the local high street has now been recognised.

In 2015 Maureen will become a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) for charitable services to Cancer Care.
