We need you - that is the message from Lincolnshire Coast Light Railway as it bids for a £44,000 lottery award from TV viewers today.

The visitor attraction, based at Skegness Water Leisure Park, will be featured on ITV Calendar News tonight to seek for cash from The People’s Millions awards. If successful, the money will be used to restore a First World War railway wagon that carried goods and troops to and from the front line. Cash would also be used to extend a platform providing access for wheelchair users and pushchairs.

Volunteer John Chappell said: “The wagon itself has several shrapnel holes in the steel frame, which we also wish to preserve, poignant evidence of a brutal past but if we win our vote and the money, this will be a piece of working, living, breathing history that visitors will be able to experience for themselves, rather than looking at photos or a glass cabinet.”

To vote call landline 09015 228201 or mobile 6228201 and select option one. Lines are open until midnight.
