Week of activities for Older People’s Day

A WEEK of activities dedicated entirely to older people in the community begins on October 1 - and a whole host of local events are planned.

October 1 is officially Older People’s day but East Lindsey District Council will be delivering a whole week’s worth of events across the district, including a special ‘60p for 60 plus’ deal at council-run leisure centres.

Other events and activities include free Health and Nordic walking and cooking sessions.

Locally there will be two-to-three-mile health walks in Skegness at various locations, as well as at the Bateman’s Brewery in Wainfleet and the Franklin Hall in Spilsby. The Skegness walks will run on Tuesday from 10am to 11am, with the Wainfleet activities occurring on Friday, October 5 from 10am to 11am. The Spilsby walks will also take place on October 5 from 2.30pm to 3.30pm.

Elesewhere there will be Nordic Walking for Health in Skegness and Spilsby.

The Skegness sessions will be at Heelers from 2pm to 3pm on Tuesday, and Gibraltar Point on Thursday, October 4 at 12.30pm to 1.15pm (taster) and 1.30pm to 2.30pm.

The Spilsby sessions will take place on Friday, October 5 from 1.30pm to 2.30pm at Ancaster Avenue (HEELERS) and the Franklin Hall (2.30pm to 3.30pm).

Cookery sessions will also run in Chapel St Leonards Village Hall on Tuesday from 11.15am, Wainfleet St Mary’s Hall on Thursday, October 4 at 11.15am and the Skegness Salvation Army Hall on Friday, October 5 from 11am.

The sessions will be based on traditional British favourites and there will be hints and tips, plus a chance for older people to share their own views and techniques.

There will also be a wide range of other activities across East Lindsey. For more information on the Over 60s week activities, visit www.e-lindsey.gov.uk/olderpeople or contact Tracey Richardson on 01507 613446 or email tracey.richardson@e-lindsey.gov.uk.
