Walk effort boost for heroes

Students at Skegness College of Vocational Training presented a cheque for Help for Heroes after a sponsored walk completed earlier in the year.

DEDICATED students at a Skegness college have handed over a four-figure sum after they donned their walking boots to raise money for a vital charity.

A total of 23 energetic members of the Skegness College of Vocational Training, based in Wilford Grove, happily presented a cheque for £1,118.05 to Staff Sergeant Cathy Evans of the armed forces last Wednesday.

Earlier in the summer, the group, plus three staff, walked 17 miles from Mablethorpe to Skegness, where each gained sponsorship to raise the funds for Help for Heroes.

This is the third year the college has taken on the challenge, and each year the students and staff try to raise even more than the last.

Sgt Cathy Evans said: “It is events like this that help Help for Heroes greatly and everyone in the local community who supports us makes a difference.

“I would like to applaud all of the students that took part in the walk and thank them for their continued support,” she added.

All of the students were also presented with a certificate by Sgt Evans and Duncan Moffatt, managing director for the college, who also gave a speech to thank all who took part for their efforts.
