Two new recruits have joined the volunteer snow clearance team keeping Spilsby’s pavements safe to use during the recent spell of snowy weather.

The 15 strong team has been braving the elements in the early morning to remove fresh snow which fell overnight on Sunday.

The Mayor of Spilsby Coun Michael Lenton is delighted with the how the town council’s emergency plan has worked and its positive impression on residents and businesses.

He said: “We’ve had really positive feedback, everyone is really grateful and congratulating us on our efforts and we’ve been given lots of free coffee.”

Four teams have been clearing around two miles of footpaths along routes deemed to be of most importance for community use using grit bins purchased through a Lincolnshire County Cpouncil operated scheme..

Since last week’s inaugural outing for the clearance teams, they have purchased an additional four shovels to make their progress quicker.

The recent snow forced the cancellation of Spilsby Market on Monday along with several school closures.

Freezing temperatures and light snow has been forecasted to continue for the next few days.
