Underage sale at Alford pub

An Alford pub has been fined for selling alcohol to underage customers.

The Windmill Hotel was among four pubs in East Lindsey, which sold alcohol to 16-year-old female volunteers during an operation targeting underage sales of alcohol.

Lincolnshire Police HQ Licensing, Special Constabulary and Lincolnshire Trading Standards visited six licensed premises in the district as part of an intelligence led operation.

The four pubs which sold to the underage volunteers were issued with an £80 fixed penalty and have been invited to a meeting with the authorities to discuss the sales and receive advice on how to prevent further breaches.

Each of the premises will be retested and any sales will lead to a police review of their premises licence and prosecution for persistently selling alcohol to children.

The other pubs which sold alcohol to the underage volunteers were: the Black Swan and Ship Inn in Horncastle and Moomins in Louth.

Two of the venues targeted by the operation, the Kings Head and Punch House, in Horncastle, refused to sell.
