As reported previously, the viability of the beach chalets had been under threat this year due to financial reasons.

Chairman of the Residents’ Association, Adrian Benjamin, said: “I am extremely grateful to ELDC and so many supporters for their help in ensuring this feature of holiday life here can now continue to give pleasure to families and individuals, so maintaining a long-standing holiday tradition.”

Portfolio Holder for Coastal Economy at the Council, Councillor Steve Kirk, said: “I am delighted that the Sutton on Sea Residents’ Association is able to open a number of Chalets in Sutton on Sea for the forthcoming season.

“The Community Group and Council both recognise the importance of the chalets to the coastal economy and traditional family seaside experience and over the coming months the Council will be exploring options that look to ensure there is Beach Chalet provision in Sutton on Sea for many years to come.”

Those wishing to offer their support to the Residents’ Association or find out more about the plans, are invited to attend a meeting at the Bacchus Hotel at 7pm on Wednesday April 13.There will be two teams of volunteers, one group helping on maintenance and decoration, and others staffing the chalets each day.
