A huge sum of money was raised by the Spilsby Branch of the Royal Britain Legion during the annual poppy appeal.
Members met at Christmas at the Red Lion, in town to discuss the fund raisin efforts, totalling up so far at £8,032-70p which fell £900 short of the previous year.
Despite it being a good sum, the branch say, they are working hard to lessen the gap this year.
“Thanks were expressed to Danny Atkinson for his professionalism as Parade Marshal at the Remembrance Parade which was one of the best ever in Spilsby,” said a spokesperson.
“Danny is also arranging a day’s fishing at a local lake as a means of fund raising with details to be released shortly,” they added.
A minutes silence was also observed during the meeting which 25 members attened, for Mr David Churchyard, a former branch treasurer and recent member of High Wycombe. Thanks also went to Spilsby legion branch members who formed a Guard of Honour at Mr Rex Barnes funeral, by his family.
At the end of the meeting presentations were made to two poppy collectors, Mr John Adams and Mrs Janet Birch for their long service to the Royal British Legion.
The award was presented by branch chairman Philip Clark to both members and praise was given to Mr John Adam for his 20 year’s of dedication to the branch.
Members then continued to enjoy a special buffet during a Christmas social which was enjoyed by all.
The next meeting will be held at the Red Lion in Spilsby on Wednesday, January 16 at 7.30pm with new members welcome.
