A Spilsby King Edward VI girls’ football team faced some strong opposition in the draw dished out for the under 12 county cup competition held recently at Grantham.
However, the Spilsby team won all three games to qualify as league winners to face Spalding High School in the final.
A tough final lived up to its bill of expectation as within five minutes King Edward VI Academy found themselves two goals down.
Then Katie Garner scored to halve the deficit and give the girls a fighting chance.
This important goal boosted the team’s confidence and had the determined team thinking positively that they could still win the match. Maddie Hallam managed to find the all-important equaliser.
Katie Garner continued to work hard in defence with Chloe Bache making some amazing saves in goal and when Tiah Smith and Maddie Hallam regained possession and went on the attack the Spilsby team seized their opportunity for glory, and took it as Tiah struck the ball and Maddie turned it in around the goal keeper.
The final whistle went and Spilsby were crowned county champions.
