Lucy Hawley, of Skegness Rotary Club, is facing two challenges over the next few days – a tandem bungy jump and the 02 Climb.

Under the banner of “Rotary in Action”, Lucy is doing the tandem bungee jump with her acrophobic husband Scott (40), on Sunday at the West Midlands Water Ski Centre.

The jump is 160 feet over water, from the top of a crane, and is raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Lucy said: “The Rotary District Governor this year is Margaret Taylor and she has picked Macmillan Cancer Support as her chosen charity, so that is why I chose it.”

On Tuesday, Lucy is celebrating Rotary International’s 111th Birthday with a number of Rotarians from around the country at The Rotary Day O2 Climb.

She said: “I chose this one for two reasons, firstly to raise money for the Roll Out the Barrel Trust, which supports Rotary’s End Polio Now campaign and water projects worldwide and also to help promote Rotary and what we do to a wider audience.

“I am the only person from the local Rotary district doing the challenge. It is expected to take around one hour and 30 minutes to complete and the challenge is done over a specially created walkway over the O2 dome which is bouncy and meant to feel like you’re walking on the surface of a tent.

“Some people think I’m crazy doing these but I love it. I have been a member of the Rotary Club of Skegness for over eight years now and was the youngest Rotarian in the district and one of the youngest in the country for quite a few years.”
