Skegness rail strikes called off after “constructive talks” between ASLEF and East Midlands Trains

TWO one-day strikes which would have wrought havoc on train services in and out of Skegness have been called off after ‘constructive’ talks between unionists and rail bosses.

ASLEF members had planned to go on strike on Saturday, June 23 and Monday, June 25 in a long-running dispute over pension payments at East Midlands Trains (EMT).

But the strikes have been postponed and rail services will run as normal on those dates following talks on Tuesday.

Announcing its decision to call off the strikes, an ASLEF spokesperson said: “Constructive talks have been held with the company which hopefully will lead to a satisfactory conclusion to the dispute.”

EMT has hailed the decision to call off the strikes.

David Horne, managing director for EMT, said: “This is a positive and welcome step by ASLEF and means we can run our full service for passengers on Saturday 23 and Monday, June 25.”
