Skegness Post Office in second lift and downstairs kiosk solution for customers following‘mixed’ reviews

The new Post Office in Skegness has moved to inform customers of alternative lift arrangements and the location of a downstairs ‘service point’ after the first-floor site earned mixed reviews from disabled residents and mums with pushchairs.
The site, inside Beales Department Store, opened its doors for the first time late last month after being forced to relocate following the closure of its former home - the Co-op in the Hildreds - at the end of December.
The move to the first floor of Beales has proven controvesial ever since, with some residents concerned about the difficulty experienced by mobility scooters and children’s buggies in navigating the store’s ‘small’ internal lift.
And those concerns have persisted amongst users of the Standard’s Facebook page - several of whom praised the ‘nice’ new facilities, but also raised doubts over ease of use by the disabled.
“I have a young baby in a pushchair,” said Nicky Watton. “The lift doors were opening and closing halfway so I thought I’d best not use it.
“Instead I had to bump my baby in her pushchair up and down the stairs - don’t think I’ll be going back there again.”
Nick Preston added: “Not a good idea for disabled people and one lift. Will be manic in the summer.”
However, others praised the facilities. Andrew Barker said: “Went in there today. Very nice.”
Mark Beadman-Newitt added: “I know it’s not [an] ideal site for a PO, but at least we have one. We could have not ended up with one.”
A Post Office spokesperson said: “We are delighted with the customer reception to the new facilities and longer opening hours.
“There is now a Post office service point at a retail till on the ground floor for any customers who have difficulty getting to the first floor.
They added that the branch itself has low-level serving counters, hearing loops and space for wheelchairs.
“The lift can accommodate a standard size motorised wheelchair. A sign next to the customer lift provides information on the alternative larger lift that is available. Staff members are happy to operate that lift to assist customers as required.
