STAFF at a Skegness building society have helped to raise over £8,000 for a homelessness charity in the area.

Charley Prince and Carl Smith from The Nottingham building society in Lumley Road joined forces with 20 other Nottingham staff members from across the region to take part in the firm’s latest annual fundraiser.

Their Bike It relay challenge saw staff cycle over 241 miles around the East Midlands stopping off at 11 different branches of The Nottingham on the way.

They were given support on their arduous adventure from the professional cyclists of Team Raleigh-GAC.

Event organiser Sue Owen said: “I am incredibly proud of Charley, Carl and the team from The Nottingham completing this relay – for the last 18 months we have been working hard to support homelessness, education and employability in our local communities under our Doing Good Together banner.

“Each and every donation we collect in support of ‘Bike It!’ will go towards helping the charity Framework to continue its work across our region in these challenging times.

“Across the country, we have seen a resurgence in cycling recently and, with our sponsorship of Team Raleigh-GAC earlier in the year, a biking challenge was a perfect way of getting the whole business involved in our biggest fundraising effort yet.”

Andrew Redfern from Framework added: “We’re delighted to be supported by two local historic organisations and wish all the riders the best of luck with their fundraising endeavours.”

The relay visited 11 branches over five days, including Skegness, Cleethorpes and Louth.
