Skegness fire-fighters up for award

THE dedicated fire-fighters at Skegness Fire Station are up for a top award at a glittering UK ceremony next month.

Firefighters and members of the public from Lincolnshire have been short-listed for this year’s ‘Spirit of Fire Awards’ on Friday, October 19.

The very best of the UK fire and rescue service, heroic members of the public and the most dedicated supporters of The Fire Fighters Charity, will be revealed at a star-studded ceremony at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge Hotel, London, where BBC newsreader Nicholas Owen will announce the winners.

Lincolnshire is flying the flag high after being shortlisted in three categories - including Team of the Year for the Skegness crews.

Skegness Fire Station is aiming to become ‘Team of the Year’, after their wide range of prevention activities helped drive down fire deaths and injuries.

Lincolnshire fire-fighters have also been nominated in Best Newcomer and the Public Adult Hero awards.

Coun Peter Robinson, executive councillor for community safety at Lincolnshire Cunty Council, said: “It’s really good to see that Lincolnshire has nominations for three of these prestigious awards. The Skegness Firefighters have shown outstanding commitment and dedication to the protection of their community and have raised considerable funds for The Fire Fighters Charity.

The Skegness team were nominated for their “exceptional dedication” in preventing fires from occurring, as well as protecting the community and supporting The Fire Fighters Charity through awareness campaigns and fundraising.

And they managed all of this despite being heavily reliant on retained firefighters.

In the other two categories Mary Maggs is up for ‘Best Newcomer’ after showing exceptional commitment towards The Fire Fighters Charity.

Members of the public Carl Creasey and Adam Lessister hope to bring home the ‘Public Adult Hero’ award after risking their own lives to save others in a fire and rescue situation.
