RNLI crew kept busy
BOTH Skegness RNLI lifeboats were called into action on Sunday during two separate incidents off the Lincolnshire coast.
The all-weather lifeboat Lincolnshire Poacher was requested to launch at 5.30pm following reports of a rigid inflatable boat (RIB) that had broken down on her way back from Wells, Norfolk, to Jackson’s Corner, near Skegness.
The craft, with five people on board, was located by Hunstanton RNLI lifeboat approximately 10 miles off the Norfolk coast and 15 miles from Skegness and taken in tow towards the Lincolnshire coast while Lincolnshire Poacher made her way to the scene.
Upon arrival, Skegness lifeboat crewmember Mike Irving was transferred to the casualty and four of the five people on board were transferred from the Hunstanton lifeboat before the Lincolnshire Poacher continued the tow to Jackson’s corner, arriving at 7.15pm.
The lifeboat stood by while the craft was recovered onto the beach before heading back to Skegness. The cause of the breakdown is thought to have been contaminated fuel.
Earlier in the day, the Skegness inshore lifeboat Peterborough Beer Festival IV had also been called to launch following a report of two people on an inflatable dinghy unable to get ashore at Ingoldmells Point.
The lifeboat launched at 2.25pm, but the dinghy and both occupants made it safe ashore shortly before the lifeboat arrived.
